What are Comets, Meteors and Asteroids?

COMETS:

comets are mainly made of ice and dust. believe it or not all comets have a nucleus! which is a small ice/dust rock in the middle of the comet. this usually falls of planets when a meteor hits it and starts to collect more small rocks which clings on to the nucleus as it falls through space. When the comets near a hot star or sun the ice starts to melt and become a gas sometimes this gas force so strong that it propels the comet through space which can sometimes force the comet into other planets or asteroids.

METEORS:

meteors are are short, white trails across the sky, or we know them as shooting stars! they are caused when small bits of “inter-planetary dust” (bits of rock off a planet) burn up when they slam into earths atmosphere at amazing speeds.  Meteor showers happen when Earth passes through the path of a comet (above) that left a lot of dust behind. (its the dust/rocks we see)

ASTEROIDS:

Asteroids are the small rocky objects in the Solar System. The largest asteroid is called Ceres, which is 933 kilometers across. The smallest asteroids is ten meters. most asteroids orbit around Jupiter and Saturn (the rings are the asteroids) asteroids don’t move around as much as comets or meteors because of their size. an asteroid belt is when multiple asteroids hang about in the same place. (all in a cluster) All asteroids are different, some are all just rocks and some contain precious metals some are not even found on earth!

Out of these images can you tell which one is which 🙂
